Surendra
Saxena, Professor of Mechanical and Materials
Engineering to receive Rudbeck Medals by Uppsala
University
Surendra K. Saxena, Professor emeritus of theoretical
geochemistry at Uppsala University and now active
at Florida International University in Miami,
is awarded the medal for his extensive interdisciplinary
and internationally acclaimed research on the
nature
of the Earth´s core.
The medal was instituted in 2002 on the 300th anniversary
of the death of Olof Rudbeck, the elder. He was
professor of medicine and, among other work, he
discovered the lymphatic system, built the Anatomical
Theater atop the Gustavianum building, and re-designed
the layout of the city of Uppsala at the behest
of Queen Christina.
Three researchers from three different fields will
receive this medal. The medals will be presented
at the Conferment Ceremony on January 26, 2007.
