| Graduate Assistantships are a form of financial
aid which assigns working duties in teaching or research
to highly qualified students. In order to receive
Research or Teaching Assistantships, the student
must be willing to work while pursuing his/her graduate
degree. Graduate Assistants receive monthly
stipends plus partial or full tuition waiver. |
|
| Research and Teaching Assistantship positions are
limited and highly competitive. Graduate Assistantships
are available to international students. |
| |
Teaching Assistantships
Graduate Teaching Assistants are involved in
instruction, usually of undergraduates. TAs perform
instructional duties in an area of their particular
expertise, most often within their home departments.
Duties may include: actual instruction in a classroom
setting; holding office hours to advise students;
assisting with laboratory setup; grading papers,
exams, laboratory reports, and homework; and other
related duties assigned by the supervising faculty. |
| |
Research Assistantships
Research conducted by Graduate Research Assistants
(RAs) is at the heart of the research efforts of
the College. RAs conduct research in a relevant area
of their major course of study, under the direction
of a faculty member. The research, often in consultation
with the student's major advisor, is usually a component
of the advisor's research that is directly supported
by external funding. RAs are expected to design and
carry out a specific research project, which usually
forms the basis for a thesis and also advances the
faculty member's research. |
