COURSE REQUIREMENTS
The Master of Science (MS) degree program in Computer Science requires a total of 30 credit hours of graduate level work, structured in the following manner:

Required coursework: 15 credits

CEN 5011 - Advanced Software Engineering
COP 5725 - Principles of Database Management Systems
COP 5614 - Operating Systems
COT 5420 - Theory of Computation I
COT 5407 - Introduction to Algorithms
Required courses must be completed with an average of "B" or higher, and only one course may receive a grade less than "B-"
 
Elective Coursework
Elective courses can be selected from Graduate Course Offerings. Only 6 credits of non-CIS courses are allowed. Only 3 credits of independent studies (CIS 5900) taken with "pass/fail" grade option are allowed.
 
Non-thesis option
15 credits of elective courses
 
Thesis option
9 credits of elective courses
6 credits of master's thesis
 
Master's Thesis
The Thesis option program requires the successful completion of a master's thesis. This includes:
.....Proposal and approval of a 3-member Thesis Committee
.....Submission and subsequent approval of a Master's Thesis proposal
.....Successful presentation and defense of the Master's Thesis
 
Grades and Credits
No course in which a grade below a 'C' is earned may be counted toward a Master of Science degree.
 
Transfer Credit
A maximum of two courses may be transferred into the program from outside the University, subject to the approval of the Graduate Committee.
 
Non-Degree seeking students
A student is allowed to take classes as a non-degree seeking student while in the process of gaining acceptance into the graduate program they wish to pursue. The maximum amount of credits that may be later applied to the program is 12 (4 classes). To register as non-degree student click here.
 
Time Limit
All works applicable to the Master of Science degree, including transfer credits, must be completed within seven years immediately preceding the awarding of the degree.
